THE TOP FIVE THINGS TO DO RIGHT NOW…

Below is essentially a list of the most effective things you can do RIGHT NOW to help fight the climate crisis by reducing your carbon emissions. Any or all of this will help. I will add tips to match and link to some stats soon, but felt an urgency to get this up and live ASAP…

1. SWITCH TO GREEN ENERGY

Take fracking and fossil fuels out of your household equation by switching to 100% renewable sources of energy. Providers of renewable 100% energy include Good Energy, Ecotricity and Bulb.

2. DIVEST

Does your bank invest in fossil fuels? (And arms dealing?) It’s possible. If you’re not sure, you could email to ask. But the best way to be certain your bank is actively investing in sustainable projects is by moving your cash to an ethical bank. The Good Shopping Guide lists the best ones and ranks the others.

3. DRIVE LESS

Skip the gym and cycle everywhere (it’s cheaper!)? Buy a bus pass? Encourage nationalisation of the train lines? Walk? Run? Lots of options… Consider buying an electric or hybrid car for the journeys you need to use a car for.

4. FLY LESS

Europe is pretty amazing! And you can get there by train and ferry. See The Man in Seat 61 for European rail routes and connections.

5. MEAT IS A TREAT

Try a few veggie, or vegan days per week. Dairy’s pretty bad for carbon emissions. Meat is worse, particularly lamb and beef. Shop locally and organically when you do buy diary and meat. Check the climate impact of food in this nifty little food-carbon calculator from the Beeb.
