INVESTMENTS

When investing your money you want it to work hard, but this needn’t be at the expense of the environment. Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) factors are now considerations for most investment firms. And many large investors believe investing with ESG factors in mind can actually benefit your long term returns. So it’s worth asking your bank, investment provider and pension provider what they are doing about ESG factors and what investment options they have that take this in to account. Be aware of ‘green washing’ answers - you can generally get a feel for the importance of these ideas for a company by seeing how it runs through their website and material. If you use an investment manager, or someone who looks after pensions and investments, you can go one stage further and also ask about their UN PRI (United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment) rating. They should be able to tell you how it breaks down in each sub category too. Knowing this information can then help you make an informed choice about where you invest for yours and your families futures.
